Week 09: Progress

Changes for design development

Personal feedback:

• Provide shade structure on upper level and connection entry at Coal loader tunnels (parasitic architecture)
• Link upper level to lower levels - another circulation space? open?
• Need more connection points between areas
• Artists spaces linked to water, extrude over water, extrude from existing sandstone wall, stairs to water level - Carlo Scarpa
• Link design to the water - reflection, access
• resolve entry - walk through typography, secracy
• Explore place and experience - circulation space
• Open chute ideas - keep experimenting for access to below?

Sam's feedback:

• The idea of a parasitic form attaching itself to the Loader is powerful - look more closely at Coop Himmeblau work (like the Vienna office building and Lebbeus Woods). 
• The proposal should bear on / interrupt / de-laminate the existing structure. 
• There should be some idea of secrecy or the unseen. 
• Work up an axo of the overall site to work on the connection between zones. 
• Further explore the walkways which connect the bottom of the site, the seawall (careful with the buttresses), and the topof the Loader. 
• How can lookouts / jetties / projections over the water be achieved? Now work more intensively on the top of the Loader 
• how does the landscaped element hold the whole zone together? 
• Think about elevating zones, enclosing others, where the limits between spaces are. 
• Work towards a concise understanding of the external and internal exhibition spaces now.
